It has been estimated that 95% of orthopedic surgeries are not needed. That’s a pretty high number. This number is so high for a variety of reasons. There are lots of procedures done these days and orthopedic surgery is big business! Don’t get me wrong, there is a time and a place for joint replacements and the whole range of orthopedic procedures being done out there. Ortho MDs are doing great work. They are transforming lives. But, there are millions of people out there who are experiencing joint pains and they are looking for other solutions. Here’s how the flow usually goes.
You experience joint pain. There may be a known injury, which initiates pain, maybe not. Then, it starts out as a mild nagging pain that kind of bothers you….it gradually gets worse and soon you stop running, walking, and exercising. Of course, that sets a whole other downward spiral in motion which we may address another day.
So, the pain spiral persists and you eventually go into see your orthopedic doctor. He usually will tell you one of two things.
- You’re a good candidate for surgery, let’s get you in next week…or
- Why don’t you do some physical therapy and maybe a steroid shot…which will “buy us some time” and you’ll be ready for surgery in 1-2 years.
What else do you have doc? There has to be more…and that’s what I’m here to tell you….
Here is how to fill the gap!
The conventional approach has been to do PT, steroids and surgery. That is the standard of care. In the past few years, the field of regenerative medicine has opened the doors of possibility to help people do a few things…
- Avoid surgery
- Avoid long down times
- Eliminate pain
- Stay off dangerous pharmaceutical pain drugs
- Stay healthy and active
How does this happen? Let me tell you how….We can do this using regenerative tools like Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) or stem cells to heal torn, damaged, degenerated tissue. It is one of the hottest trends in medicine and I want everyone to know about this. It keeps people off of pain medications and helps avoid surgery.
Mark my words….Regenerative therapies like Platelet Rich Plasma and Stem Cells will be the future of orthopedic medicine. We’re on the way!
